“The Rotating Kitchen by Zeger Reyers started rotating last Friday and will continue to rotate until February 28th 2010.” — via BoingBoing.

The various discussion threads about this are, of course, turning into arguments along the lines of “This isn’t art, this is stupid.” “Shut up, you philistine, this is so totally art.”

For my part, I feel that this is awesome, and if someone coming up with a totally ridiculous but utterly fantastic idea, and then actually implementing it with skill and craft so that everyone can enjoy it is not art… then to hell with art, right?

The guy who takes white canvasses, paints them white, and then writes a six-page totally bullshit faux-philosophical justification about how meaningful they are? Fuck that guy. Fuck him right in the ear. The guy who starts a project off with “Holy shit, you know what would fuckin’ sweet?” That’s the guy we should be giving the grant money to.

That said, they probably should have put a plexiglass front on this. Not just to keep the stuff from spilling out, but because of how its going to smell in three months’ time.
